How This Calculator Works

This tool checks if your plant-based meals provide adequate lysine and methionine — the two most commonly limiting amino acids in plant diets. Lysine is low in grains. Methionine is low in legumes. Together, they determine protein quality more than total grams alone.

Plant protein adjustment: Because plant proteins have lower bioavailability (60-85% vs 90-99% for animal), we increase your target by 30% automatically. A 75kg active vegan needs ~130g/day, not 100g. The stacked bar chart shows your coverage of total protein, lysine, and methionine side by side.

Complementary pairing: The tool implicitly rewards combinations. Rice + beans, hummus + pita, or pea + rice protein powder all improve scores because they cover each other's amino acid gaps. Single-source plant proteins (like straight rice protein) will show lower adequacy.
